Third game of the season so far was a home fixture against the Athletic Cobras! from Washington.

Unfortunately Harry B was still unavailable but thankfully this year we have strength in numbers. The starting players were Noah in goal for the first half with Oscar coming on in the second. In defence we had Jack at right back, Thomas and Martin in the centre and Will at left back. In midfield we started with Charlie W on the right, Euan and Charlie P in the centre and Ellis moving out onto the left. From the 3 strikers available we decided to start the game with Harry F and Sam. Ben, Oscar, Lucas and Daniel made up the remainder of the squad.
It was a brilliant start to get a goal within the first minute when the ball was launched down the pitch and Euan was able to hold off the opposition's defence to cross the ball low for Sam to connect from close range. Though a little shell-shocked the Cobras did not lose heart and came very close to equalising when one of their players did a weaving run through our defence to then shoot wide. We also had our chances to extend our lead but Ellis's shot was well saved. On the 20th minute we were awarded a corner and from the resulting cross cannoned of a Cobra's head and into the goal. Changes were made soon after with Lucas, Ben and Dan replacing Harry F, Charlie W and Jack. Excellent defending from Will down the left keeping the ball alive and setting up attacking play. We kept on going to try and get that 3rd goal as the Cobras looked more than capable of getting back into this game. Continueing to press ourselves, Lucas went very close after some good work from Daniel but unfortunately their keeper was equal to the shot. 7 minutes were left of the half when Noah made a terrific save from a freekick then it was our turn to come close with an attack ending with Will heading the ball just over. Martin was then injured making a tackle and was replaced by the dependable Charlie W. Momemts later we were forced to make another change when Noah was injured during a tangle with players in the box. This just meant that Oscar got a few minutes extra in the remainder of the first half to play in goal.
Changes were made at halftime and Harry F came on for Sam; Ellis and Will were also given a well-needed rest. The opposition started the second half in an attacking mood and Oscar was called upon to make several crucial saves but our defence stood firm. Then when it was our turn to attack Charlie W was at hand to provide some excellent wing and crossing that was sadly not capitilised. Midway through the half Martin delivered one of his no-nonsense tackles but the Cobras were unable to get anything from the resulting freekick. They were definatley on the up and were then awarded a penalty but thankfully again missed the oppourtunity to make the last 15 minutes uncomfortable when their shot went high and wide. With 10 minutes left up popped Charlie P with a low shot past the keeper to make the game feel a lot more secure.
MOM: Charlie W
