Tynemouth's first away game RFYL was a trip to Peterlee, the home of Shotton United.....

A few key players would be missing for the match; Harry B and Blake. Unfortunately Harry would be unavailable for several weeks due to a broken collar bone. this means a few changes in midfield were needed with Ellis moving from the wing into a more central position. the rest of the team for the game was Noah in goal with Thomas, Martin, Jack and Daniel in defence. Starting midfield was thus Charlie P, Euan, Ellis and Ben with forwards Lucas and Harry F.
The game started with Shotton testing our defence first, the resulting shot going harmlessly wide. next it was our turn to worry the opposition's defence with decent effort from the lively Harry F. then moments later Ben played a one two with Harry but the resulting shot was blocked. Next both teams continued to trade blows with defences dealing everything thrown at them. unfortunately Shotton did eventually make the first break through when a simple ball got past out defence allowing their striker to shoot beyond Noah. Shotton then extended their lead minutes later when a speculative shot from distance flew into the back of the net. Things were not going to plan so Tynemouth stepped up their game with Will, Sam and Charlie W coming on. Euan went close when his flicked shot was palmed away for a corner. Tynemouth kept up the pressure sensing they could get something before half time and they did when Sam held off a defender to get his shot away into the net. Game on!
More changes were made at half time with Will coming back on to replace Daniel. Instantly Tynemouth pushed for the equaliser and got their reward when some great wing play resulting in Lucas receiving the ball in the opposition's penalty box. He was able to cut the ball back for Sam to slot home from close range. The game was tantalisingly poised now- who was going to push on an get the winner? At this point the impetus was definitely with Tynemouth and Ben almost put us in front when he unleashed a great effort from distance only for the goalkeeper to acrobatically palm it wide. Fresh legs were needed to keep the momentum going so Harry came on for Euan with Lucas dropping behind the front 2 strikers. unfortunately things did not go quite to plan and Shotton scored a third. The boys kept the pressure up but a well organised defence prevented us from making an clear-cut chances. With only 5 minutes left the Peterlee team were awarded a freekick from quite a distance out. The resultant shot looped over our defensive wall and beyond Noah's outstretched fingers. We rallied in the last few minutes and Sam came close to getting his hattrick but it was all to no avail. In the end at disappointing result that could have gone our way if we had taken our chances.
