It was a great win against...………...

It was a great win against Kingston park last week considering that the boys hadn’t kicked a ball in anger in nearly a month. It was important that the boys kept the momentum up, so they could continue to drive up the table and catch the teams that had managed to play more games.
Unfortunately, Noah was unable to play due to a back injury that we didn’t want to aggravate further. Thankfully Tynemouth are blessed with 2 excellent keepers to choose from so this allowed Oscar to deputise for the full match. The rest of the squad were available with jack, Daniel, martin and Thomas in defence as usual. Charlie P, Harry, Euan and Charlie W in the middle. Starting strikers for this game was Blake and Sam. Ben, Lucas and Will would come on later.
The first 20 minutes of the game were very even though the hawks hadn’t troubled Oscar in goal. Blake, martin and Sam had come very close to scoring but the opposition were blocking shots and their defensive play was good. We did feel though, that if we kept driving on we’d eventually make a breakthrough. This happened when Charlie P made a fantastic run down the wing and played a ball across the box for Euan to shoot past the keeper. Changes were made with Sam, Charlie P and dan coming off to be replaced by Ben, Lucas and Will. Euan nearly scored again when Ben crossed the ball for him only see his shot tipped over the bar. We did manage to score again before halftime when Harry scored a wonder goal. He had received the ball near the centre circle and had then proceeded to dribble through their defence before slotting past the keeper. Our defence had not been troubled too much with jack and Daniel doing sterling work in thwarting any attacks down the wings. Thomas and Martin had been a rock in the centre protecting Oscar.
The second half turned out to be an incredible 35 minutes for the blues. As a team we always prefer (if the coin toss allows it) to attack downhill in the second half. We also had the wind in our favour. From the start we went for the jugular. Ben was having an outstanding game and scored with a superb strike from distance within the first 5 minutes of the restart. Lucas scored straight after with an audacious flick over the keeper when it was parried to him. Ben deservedly got his second when his strike went low through a crowd of players passing the unsighted goalie. Charlie P then got his deserved goal when he stooped low to shoot from a tight angle when played in by harry. Moments later Blake scored his first goal of the game then Harry scored another wonder goal from distance. The Hawks looked crestfallen at this stage and were struggling to get out of their own half. Tynemouth weren’t finished yet and continued to pile on the pressure with Will going very close to increasing the lead only to see his goal bound shot blocked on the line. Their keeper made an excellent save from Charlie P’s freekick and that was almost it until the final minute of the game when Thomas came up from defence to superbly header a ben cross. Not to be outdone (with seconds left) Blake scored with a deft header from a perfectly weight cross from the left foot of Charlie P. A headed goal that was also praised by the Heaton coaches. The score line didn’t flatter us because the boys put in a superb performance, but Heaton Hawks were better than the result suggests. They certainly matched us for the first 20 minutes.
