The Winning Streak Continues

After a prolonged and forced absence...…...

After a prolonged and forced absence from playing competitive football due to wind, rain and snow it was nice to know that the weather wasn’t going to stop us today. Our opponents to day were Kingston Park Hawks, a team we are very familiar with as past encounters with them have always been tough. We showed great improvement last year and have carried this excellent form into this season. Our main concern with this match was the lack of football played by the players in the last month- would they be up for it!
We had a full squad to pick from including both keepers. So, starting line-up for the first half was Noah in goal with a back 4 of Daniel, Thomas, martin and jack. For midfield it was Charlie p, Euan, harry and Charlie w. starting at the top was Lucas and Blake. The starting subs were ben, Sam and will.
A strong start from Tynemouth with Charlie P going close in the first minute just shooting over the bar. Then Euan went close with left foot shot inside the box and with another effort blasted high. We were making chances but unfortunately, we didn’t have our shooting boots on yet. Again, another shot over the bar, this effort from harry. We continued plugging away and kept the pressure up restricting any attacking play from Kingston park with some tenacious defending. It was this typical defending from Thomas that started the move that got us our opening goal. The blues defender superbly won the ball back and played the ball down the line to Euan who passed to Charlie w who then played a quality through ball for Blake to finish. Charlie p went close again when his corner hit the post.
A few changes were made with Sam coming on for Blake and Charlie p off for ben. We were then forced to make another change when had to leave the pitch with a nose bleed when the ball was kicked into his face. So, Charlie p was suddenly back on to take up Thomas’s defensive role.
The boys continued to carve out further chances with ben, Sam and Charlie w going close. Noah had a fairly comfortable half but when he was tested he was a match for the opposition’s efforts.

The second half saw the inclusion of Oscar in goal for Noah and Will in defence for Jack. The boys got off to a blistering start when Euan doubled the lead with a close finished shot after Sam delivered a perfect cross. Ben almost got on score sheet as well when he weaved through the defence only to see his shot rise and hit the bar. Further changes were made with Euan and Blake replaced by Charlie W and Lucas. The defence were coping fairly comfortably with what Kingston Park had to offer especially will who was kept very busy tracking and defending down the wing. Oscar was having a quiet game with not many saves to make until a stumble and miss control in the penalty box nearly resulted in a goal against us. After that minor incident Oscar settled down and didn’t put a foot wrong for the rest of the game. Sam made sure all 3 points went to Tynemouth when he scored after being set up by Lucas.
An excellent performance considering the lack of competitive football over the past month.
