Yellows comfortably win 16 (yes SIXTEEN) goal thriller
After a great season last year and a summer full of hard work and beach fitness, Tynemouth United Under 15 Yellows began the new season in a new league, against opposition they have never faced before. Also new to the team were a full size pitch, full size goals, a size 5 match ball and 40 minute halves.
The game began in a shaky fashion with both sides attempting to adjust to the long grass and sticky ball and at first, this really hampered the Yellows from playing their passing game. The initial exchanges favoured the home side and their pacey forward. One through ball reached him and he broke through on the right, crossing the ball into the goal for the hosts to take the lead. The long and through balls would pose a constant threat throughout but the defence of Jared, Josh, Cameron, Lewis, Harvey and sweeper keeper Shaun kept things tight to see out the half without further incident.
Undeterred by the conditions, Tynemouth adapted well, kept their heads and learned how to impose their play on the opposition; with the midfield 3 of Matthew, John and Reece breaking down play and distributing well. Joe, David and Connor willing runners and outlets. Some fine flowing football followed and then came the goals - 4 without reply in favour of the Yellows. Goals coming from Cameron Balloch who rose to head in from a Mohon corner, Chidlow following up on the loose ball in the box, Reece scoring on his debut and Joe'fox in the box' Chidlow getting his second from close range.
Half time: 1-4.
The second half saw the withdrawal of captain Jared through injury and the pack was re-shuffled. The Yellows suffered while they adjusted and conceded 3 quick goals in the first 10 minutes of the half. The setback seemed to galvanise the team and the pace and work rate increased. Two more for the Yellows followed with David scoring a curler from the edge of the box and Connor driving through to smash home his debut goal.
What followed for the rest of the game resembled more of a basketball match with end to end football and both sides scoring freely. Cleveland Hall pulled back two more goals to make the score a nervy 6-5. Joe scored his hat-trick after latching onto a through ball and slotting home before the Gateshead outfit scored again - 7-6!
Tynemouth found the extra gear and quality to see this mad game through, finally putting their opposition to the sword with three goals - Connor again finding the net followed by Jaden with a lovely header from Dan Nicholson's dinked cross and finally Cameron enjoying his midfield role by finishing the scoring after some nifty footwork.
A game that would definitely have been on first on Match of the Day!
