Reds battle to make it 9 unbeaten
Against a strong Cramlington United team the Reds showed the progress they've made to date by never giving in and getting a late equaliser to stay top of the league.
Gavin started in goal behind Josh and Alfie. The midfield of Connor, Mickey, Fin and Robbie up front soon learned that Cramlington would be a different proposition to some of the teams the Reds have beaten recently when from the first few minutes the game was ebb and flow with the defence coming under some strong and determined Cramlington attacks. But giving as good as they took and playing some good passing football the Reds attacked well but at half time it was honours even, a more than fair reflection of the first half.
The second half started with Harry and Luke on the wings respectively and the game continued very much in the same vain with very little between the two teams. Goalmouth scrambles were followed by counter attacking football and it took a piece of fantastic finishing to break the deadlock when with 10 minutes played the Cramlington winger was given too much space outside the box hit an almost unstoppable finish into the top corner which Gavin had no chance of saving.
The difference in the Reds from 6 months ago is that they never know when they're beaten. After overcoming a close call when Cramlington hit the bar from outside the box, and Matt clearing well for a corner after a good save from Alfie (now in goal) Connor continued to drive the team forward and with Finlay now back on the Reds looked to take advantage of a tiring United team. And true to form (the Reds equalised in the last minute the last time they played Cramlington) the unbeaten record was maintained when a clever corner from Finlay was met by an unmarked Conner who shot on the half turn to equalise (Full time 1-1).
A real 'squad' performance where the bench of Matt, Harry and Luke contributed in the second half to the draw the Reds now go marching on looking for the magic double figured unbeaten run.
MOTM was Mickey who has been great for the last few weeks not least his running behind defenders has caused them great problems and his reading of the game which gets better and better.
