The Yellows travelled to near neighbours Whitley Bay FC hoping to put on a better show following last weeks below par display at Alnwick when they only managed a point.
After a lot of fitness work in training earlier in the week the boys turned up ready for the game with a positive attitude, focused, no messing around before the game and clearly determined to get back to winning ways. That determination paid off as the boys ran out comfortable winners thanks to a sensational 10 minute display in the first half when James (pictured) was unplayable and caused countless problems to the home back line. He was involved in all four first half goals and managed to bag himself a hat-trick along the way too. The game started slowly with both teams struggling to get a foothold in the game early on, with the home side clearly wanting to defend deep and attempt to stop the visitors from playing their football. It wasn't long though before you could sense the boys getting on top as the ball spent most of the time in the Whitley half and a few chances were spurned as the Yellows looked hungry for that opening goal. After 10 minutes the breakthrough came when Lewis, who was looking composed in the midfield, played a lovely curled ball over the defence for James to latch onto and hammer past the home goalkeeper. That wasn't enough though and the second came straight from the kick off. After Lucas won the ball in midfield he fed Owen who in turn found James on the left of the box. The forward still had a bit to do, but he went past two defenders with ease before firing a shot across the keeper to give the Yellows a great start. The third came shortly after, to give James his hat-trick, when Lucas cleverly lobbed the ball back into the home box which then seen James get in front of the defender to delicately head home. Before a well deserved breather James then set up top goalscorer Owen with a fabulous curved through ball past two defenders for Owen to run onto and dispatch into the far corner to leave Whitley Bay shell shocked. The half ended with Tynemouth in total command after a great first half display and the chance to go into the second half being able to play and enjoy themselves. There were no further goals in the second half as the boys clearly played in a more relaxed manner but they still created chances. Owen and Astin's link up play was exceptional at times and with a bit more luck Astin could have had a hat-trick himself, but the keeper made a few excellent saves too. Lucas and Rowen worked hard in midfield ensuring that the Yellows stayed on top til the end, Zack had one save to make and saved it well in the first half and the defence was solid once again. A special mention too for the back four, whoever is playing at anyone time, generally marshalled by Harry and / or Nathan and Zack in goal as the boys have only conceded six goals in nine league games and this allows the midfield and forwards to do what they do well. An excellent team performance all round and sets the boys up well for next weeks last sixteen County Cup game at Norham against Premiership side North Shields, but no doubting the man of the match award as James fully deserved it.
