The Yellows knew a win or even a draw would possibly be good enough to earn promotion but a defeat hit the boys hard.
Too many mistakes were made, which is rare for this group of players and individual battles were lost in a few positions, which ultimately led to the last game of the season ending in defeat. The Yellows started brightly and looked the better team early on and created a few half chances which failed to really test the home keeper. The first goal was always going to be crucial and it was the home side who got it when the ball was lost in midfield, which then led to a cross being headed home by a player who was totally unmarked in the penalty area. The second followed, as the boys lost their momentum, when a cross managed to deceive Zack in goal and heads began to drop. A half time pep talk was aimed at getting an early response but once again an individual mistake led to Montague having two players in the box free, for one of them to fire home. In fairness to the Yellows, they then piled the pressure on and the home goalkeeper made some fantastic saves to protect his clean sheet. If it wasn't the keepers heroics it was some other form of bad luck that prevented United getting back in the game. A loss was not in the script but promotion can still be gained if results go the right way so the seasons not over yet. A special mention to Harry (pictured), who was awarded man of the match, for a fantastic all round performance that deserved more as he tried to drive the team on throughout the 60 minutes.
