Cup Holders Knocked Out!
Any hopes of defending their trophy or enjoying a cup run ended at Norham after a frustrating day all round for the Yellows.
Despite dominating throughout, the Yellows were unable to find that little bit of quality needed to get the breakthrough against a dogged Ponteland side who had a game plan to defend in numbers and break when possible. The first 20 minutes was all about the midfield with the home side being on top but unable to create that chance they craved. As in so many games the away team capitalised on a break when the winger was not closed down and he found the centre forward to slot home. The boys continued to dominate and didn't let their heads drop as they tried to get back into the game but opportunities were squandered. The post was hit, shots over the bar, one on ones not took and goalmouth scrambles went begging. Even in the last minute all Tynemouth players went up for a corner which was cleared and their forward finished easily to make the scoreline very tough to take. There were some good performances with Rory standing out in the first half but Nathan was exceptional all game and didn't deserve to be on the losing side, however he did claim the man of the match award. The season has still a long way to go with 14 league games left and the boys aiming for a second promotion and a semi-final against North Shields first team in March to have a crack at.
